There has been a recreation ground in St. Georges since 1883...
…when annual athletics sports were first held here. The recreation ground as we know it today stands on a smaller site provided by the Lilleshall Company that has been extended on a piecemeal basis since its inception.
In the 1930s, the old Social Club was built, which is now used as the changing rooms for the Hockey & Cricket clubs.
In 1965, the new Public Hall & Social Club (The Club’s current building) was opened alongside the second bowling green and hockey pitch.
The recreation ground has provided leisure and sporting opportunities for the community for over 100 years and is run on a voluntary basis supported by the income generated by St. Georges Sports & Social Club.
St. Georges Sports & Social Club is home to the St. Georges bowling Club, St. Georges Cricket Club, Telford & Wrekin Hockey Club, and the Pigeon Flying Club.
The St. George’s Recreation Ground and Public Hall is a registered charity, number 522557.
The Social Club plays a major role funding the Recreation Grounds upkeep allowing it to provide excellent sports facilities. Your ongoing support helps ensure it will still be here for future generations to enjoy.

Our Facilities
St. Georges Sports & Social Club is more than just a local – we’re set up to host everything from quiet drinks to big celebrations. Inside, you’ll find a well-stocked bar, live sports on screen, darts and dominoes, and a self-contained function room with its own bar and stage.
Outside, there’s plenty of space to enjoy, with views across the recreation ground, free parking, and a smoking area. The Club is fully accessible and family-friendly, making it a space for everyone to enjoy.
